This photo was taken at Yealand (in front of the primary school) when Sands 2nd XI played in the local 'Country Cricket League' which included teams such as Bare and Halton, joining the Lancaster and District League in 1955. George Bowker and Tony Kellett would go on to captain the 1st team in the future, whilst Jim Oxley would prove to be a solid bowler in the lower divisions. He once took 8-2 off just 4.4 overs (including three maidens) as Standfast A were bowled out for 10 in 1956. Jack Haslam was a 2nd XI stalwart for many years, captaining the side on several occasions.
