Adam & Gaskell Trophy Final - Bolton-le-Sands 155, Kendal 3rds 79
Sands A were worthy winners of the Adam & Gaskell Trophy, outclassing their Cumbrian opponents, in the final played at Burneside CC on Sunday.
Kendal won the toss and asked Sands to bat, which probably looked the right decision given the morning’s heavy rain. However the Lancastrians have been in pretty useful form with the bat of late and so it proved to be the case again. Mark Beaumont led the way with a hard hit 41 and Danny Dixon supported with 34. At one stage it appeared the total would approach the 200 mark, but Kendal captain Andy Proctor 4 for 9 put the brakes on and Sands had to settle for 155 all out.
Non of the momentum was lost when Sands took to the field for Kendal’s reply, pacemen Mark Clarkson 2 for 12 and Steve Huckle 5 for 16 soon took control. At 39 for 7 there was no way back for Kendal, but spirited batting by the lower order lifted the score to 79. Mick Clarkson proudly led the Sands team forward to collect the trophy which was presented by Burneside CC Chairman Tony Walker. Tony too was celebrating on the day having just completed his 25th year as Burneside Chairman - an outstanding contribution.
Sands can now look forward to clinching promotion to Division 3, with just 2 games to play they lie in 2nd place. Two team with contrasting memories of last season's finale met on the opening day of 2007, with Warton running out comfortable victors in one-sided encounter.
